I was treated to a beekeeping experience on 2nd May 2026 as a birthday present and was not disappointed. My daughter and I had a brilliant day out. When we arrived at the farm we received a warm welcome from our hosts James and Jade. After an introductory talk on bees, equipment, flowers and the environment in general, we got suited up in readiness to visit the hives. Safety was a priority, so checks were carried out to ensure the protective clothing fitted correctly. We visited the hives, witnessed the bees going about their daily activity and were encouraged to handle the frames, as well as being educated about the workings of the colony. Following the visit to the hives, we were treated to a cup of tea and delicious homemade honey cake. Overall, we had the most wonderful and informative day out thanks to the genuine warmth, remarkable knowledge and passion for the environment shown by our hosts. We cannot thank James and Jade enough and would encourage anyone with an interest in beekeeping to sign up to the experience day at Little Walterstone Farm, Penmaen, Swansea.
