Get ready to embark on a fascinating journey into the world of honeybees and discover the wonders of beekeeping firsthand!
Imagine yourself surrounded by the gentle hum of bees, the sweet scent of honey and the beauty of the Gower countryside. Our Beekeeping Experience Day offers a unique opportunity to learn about these incredible creatures and get a hands-on insight into the fascinating art of beekeeping.
Our experienced beekeepers, James and Jade, will guide you through the experience, sharing their knowledge and passion for bees while helping you understand their vital role in our ecosystem. You’ll learn about the importance of honeybees in pollination, food production and maintaining a healthy natural environment.
You’ll have the opportunity to put on protective beekeeping clothing and get up close to our bees, observing their behaviour and discovering how a honeybee colony works together. Under the guidance of James or Jade, you’ll experience a typical hive inspection and learn about bee biology, hive management and some of the challenges facing honeybees today.
Of course, no beekeeping experience would be complete without honey! You’ll enjoy a tasting session featuring the wonderful flavours of our spring, summer and autumn honeys, discovering how the seasons influence their colour, taste and character.
Our Beekeeping Experience Day is more than just an introduction to beekeeping. It’s an opportunity to connect with nature, learn something new and develop a deeper appreciation for these remarkable little creatures and the essential role they play in the food we eat.
You’ll leave with a wealth of new knowledge, wonderful memories and a jar of our very own Little Walterstone Farm Wildflower Gower Honey to enjoy at home.

A Typical Beekeeping Experience Day
Join James and Jade for a hands-on introduction to the fascinating world of honeybees and beekeeping!
What to Expect on the Day
1. Welcome and a Cuppa
We’ll start by welcoming you to the farm with a cuppa and refreshments, while chatting through what to expect during your beekeeping experience.
2. The Wonderful World of Honeybees
Discover the important role honeybees play in food production, pollination and maintaining a healthy ecosystem.
3. Get to Know the Beehive
Take a closer look at our beekeeping equipment and learn about the different parts that make up the British National Beehive.
4. Meet Our Bees!
Get up close and personal with our honeybees as you experience a typical hive inspection under the guidance of experienced beekeepers James and Jade.
We’ll provide all the necessary bee suits and gloves. Please remember to bring your own wellies!
5. A Taste of Our Honey
Enjoy a honey-tasting experience featuring the different flavours of spring, summer and autumn honey.
6. Questions, Answers and Refreshments
There’ll be plenty of time to ask questions, share your experiences and enjoy some refreshments before we wrap up the day.
7. A Little Taste of Gower to Take Home
To finish your experience, every participant will receive a jar of our very own Little Walterstone Farm Wildflower Gower Honey to enjoy at home.
A Little Note About Your Visit
Bees and British weather can be unpredictable! Our itinerary may need to change slightly on the day due to weather conditions or other unforeseen circumstances. Don’t worry, though — we’ll do our best to make sure you leave the farm with a fascinating insight into the world of honeybees and an unforgettable experience.
Cancellation and Rescheduling Policy
Once you’ve booked your preferred date, we require a minimum of 21 days’ notice for cancellations or rescheduling requests.
We understand that emergencies and unforeseen circumstances can arise. If something unexpected happens, please contact us through our website as soon as possible to discuss your situation. We’ll endeavour to resell your space to help avoid a cancellation or rescheduling penalty.

We visited the farm for a bee keeping experience and had a fab time. James and Jade were so welcoming and knowledgeable and provided helpful directions to their farm (which is down a long farm track so be prepared). We left buzzing (get it!) with information about the bees, had a fantastic opportunity get suited up and up close and personal with them and tried some delicious honey and honey-treats. Would highly recommend. Such a lovely setting too in the Gower to make a day of it.

I had such a lovely time at the Bee Keeping course at Walterstone Farm with James and Jade. The talk we had beforehand was super informative and I learned so much about honey bees that I never knew before. The course was amazing and I really encourage everyone to give it a try. James took loads of photos and shared them on a WhatsApp group. You get to get up and close with the bees plus trying different kinds of honey and honey straight from the hive. The honey cake was very tasty as well. Thank you for the jar of honey, it was lovely x 💖 💕

From the outset, James and Jade were friendly and approachable. A wealth of knowledge was presented in an easily understand talk which had me listening to every word - a far cry from my Uni days trying not to fall asleep in lectures. Then we all suited up and were taken to the bees and James and Jade made sure we felt safe at all times. The bee keeping experience was absolutely incredible and the icing on the cake was a jar of their fabulous honey to take home. I very highly recommend the bee keeping experience - 5 stars isn't enough.
